Originally, the H.A.G, formally known as the N.H.A, governed by the Ministry of Housing, implemented it pioneer housing programs. The River Road, Telescope, Grand Anse & Bonaire housing schemes. Each seeks to provide this necessary housing accommodation to low-income earner and urban working class individuals. With the Authority mission still in clear focus, the Authority moved on to the extension of mortgage loan and material loan packages to clients. The mortgage program afforded individuals who had their own lands and a small but steady source of income to afford a house with the Authority. In many cases individuals monthly repayment amounts were as little as $250.00. In other circumstances the Authority extended material loan packages to individuals wishing to improve their quality of housing accommodation, either through extension or repairs of present facilities. Loans were granted to the amount of E.C $20000.00 to be repaid over a five year period at 9% interest per annum. The Housing Authority of Grenada over the years has been plagued severely with the problem of delinquent clients. And as such, created a climate whereby all credit disbursements were placed on hold. The Housing Authority of Grenada is conscience of its mission and vision statement. And therefore, have embarked on measures to correct delinquency. Thus, with it new levels of operation the Authority will be reintroducing mortgage & loan package programs. The future for all low & middle-income earners seeking the opportunity to earn a house looks bright. In November 2000 the Authority have completed the construction of 15 houses at Diamond Estate in St.Mark's and presently, diverge into the building of Cuban design houses. Additionally, the Authority has combine forces with the government of Grenada to develop a housing program for rural individuals at Dunfermline St.Andrewís. Apart from these future prospects, the Authority will be embarking on the development of houses in Carriacou, St.John's, St.David's St.Andrew's and Frequente in St.George's in the very near future. The housing Authority of Grenada through perseverance and public cooperation will become the primary provider of low and middle income houses for all Citizens of Grenada Carriacou and Petite Martinique. |
